Loutro Village
Loutro lies on the south coast of Chania regional unit in west Crete, between Chora Sfakion and Agia Roumeli, the exit to the Samaria Gorge. The whole area is known as Sfakia.
The village got its name from the Greek word for "bath," for the many ancient baths found in the area. Loutro is a tranquil fishing village facing the Libyan sea. Adorned with the blues and the whites so typical of the Greek landscape, a visit to Loutro can be the perfect day trip from the city of Chania.
Loutro can be reached by boat or ferryboat from Hora Sfakion (also called Sfakia). Alternatively it is possible to walk along the coast (2 hours from Hora Sfakion) or on a path winding down from the village of Anopolis (a little over an hour). Loutro can also be reached by boat from Paleochora, Sougia and Agia Roumeli.
